Pure Radiance
Plant Name: White Willow Bark

INCI Name: Salix Alba (Willow) Bark Extract

Salix alba is a tree growing up to 30m tall in Europe and western Asia. White Willow contains salicin which can be decomposed to salicylic acid. It is from the Willow bark that salicylic acid was originally derived in the development of the drug Aspirin. Historically, White Willow bark was used by the Ancient Egyptians for its pain relieving and anti-inflammatory effects and is still used in today’s modern herbal medicine. The main active compound, salicylic acid, has shown to demonstrate anti-inflammatory activities by inhibition of TNF-α, COX-2, NF-κB, ICAM-1 and MMPs. Anti-inflammatory activities have also been shown by White Willow barks’ flavonoids and other bioactive compounds.
