IECIC Name: MENTHA PIPERITA (PEPPERMINT) LEAF EXTRACT

 Mentha piperita belongs in the mint family and has been used therapeutically as an antiseptic and anaesthetic. 

It has a long historical use in herbal medicine in both Western and Eastern cultures, employed therapeutically as an antiseptic and anaesthetic.
Eriocitrin is the main active compound of M. piperita, and holds most of the herbs antioxidant properties, 
with extracts demonstrating high DPPH and hydrogen peroxide scavenging activity. In another scientific article, luteolin-7-0-rutinoside, 
a flavonoid from peppermint, was observed to have inhibitory effects on histamine release in human cells.
