Artemisia absinthium is an herbaceous perennial plant. Wormwood has a unique flavour and is an important ingredient in the production of alcoholic drink, Absinthe. During the Ancient Greek period, Wormwood was used as an antiparasitic treatment. One of the main phytochemical constituents of Wormwood is bitter sesquiterpene lactone which is reported to show anti-inflammatory activities. Scientific research has also shown that extracts of A. absinthium indicate antioxidant and antimicrobial properties. These efficacies make Wormwood extract a beneficial ingredient in skin care formulations.
